For about 9 months of last year I owned a gorgeous red E30 325is as a "third" car. I spent quite awhile getting it cleaned up and mechanically ready for action, but really it was in good shape to begin with. Anyway, I detailed the cr@p out of this thing and then decided to take a day off and drive it out to Hermann. I waited until about 1:30 PM when traffic is pretty light and left Kirkwood. Hwy 94 was mine. I mean really - no cars! I was having a blast until I came up on a couple motorcycles about halfway there. They were out for a drive as well, and decided to pace me the rest of the way. The E30 325is handles like it's on rails, but really these motorcycles were just playing with me. I can't tell you how much fun this was. I got to Hermann and gassed the thing up. I'm not kidding, I was out of my car for a total of 5 minutes. Didn't stop for a beer or a taste of wine or anything. I was by my self and really, I was just in this for the drive. I proceded on to Hwy 100 through Hermann, in obedient regard for the local speed limit through town. Then more of the same back to Washington, Hwy 44 and back.. I have yet to do this drive in my M635, but I think I probably will pretty soon. Again, it will have to be during the middle of the day - no traffic. Sometimes I think the Sixer is a little overpowered for this kind of driving, but still - it must be done!

I did this exact drive last weekend for my birthday. Stayed at a B&B.
I saw no deer on the road, other than a John Deere on 94. Beware of local farmers going 15 mph. I took my 635, but plan to do it again in the 2002. We need to do this as a club outing.

If you're in Hermann for a bit, head west out of town on Hwy 19. Just after you pass the Hardees, make a Left onto Hwy H. This road is the most fun I have ever had in a car. It is super twisty and hilly so much so that apparently they filmed a VW commercial on it back in the 80's. I grew up in Hermann and used to just drive this road for the fun of it. It's only about 15 miles long and doesn't really go anywhere (a little bitty town called Stony Hill that's not worth visiting), but definitley worth the drive down it and back. The last thing I did by myself before getting married was cruise this road with the windows down, sunroof open and radio blaring. Great time...

In reply to the last post, I live in Hermann, and Hwy 19 runs north and south, as do all odd-numbered highways. You can't go west on it. Taking it South out of town will take you to Hwy H.
On another note, instead of turning around and taking the same highway back, you can use Hwy Z which is also a fun road to drive. Turning right on to Z will take you back to Hwy 19, just a little further south than you started. Turning left on Hwy Z will take you to Hwy 100, which goes to Washington.
Also, Joe wasn't joking about the deer. Most of them are north of the river, but I know at least six kids in my junior class at Hermann High School (out of about 100) who have hit, or been run off the road by deer.
Drive safe,
Richard J. Pankau
