Guys, I'm going to be assembling my lightweight flywheel, clutch, pressure plate and transmission Wednesday (tomorrow) night starting at 6:30pm. If you've ever wanted to learn about how this all goes together, including the need for a centering tool, throw-out bearing, etc. Now is your chance. If all goes well, I could also really use an extra hand lining up the transmission and attaching it to the motor.
If all goes REALLY well, we may even be able to get the motor into the car by the end of the evening! (Where it would be really handy to have help lining things up.)
As usual, beers will be on hand, and if there is sufficient demand, Pizza will be provided.
Let me know if you guys can make it. I'm really hoping to push forward with this project and any help is appreciated.
Thanks! Robert

An E36 engine goes in much easier from the top if the tranny isn't attached. If that's how you're going about this, I suggest you do the flywheel & clutch, install the engine, and then install the tranny. Of course, if you have a lift that I don't know about, it is perfectly fine to drop the body over the engine/tranny/subframe assembly.

Actually I have disassembled the entire font cross member, giving me direct access to the engine bay from the front.

Hey Robert, I'd love to help but can't make it tomorrow. One word of caution: make sure you have the clutch disc in the correct orientation. The clutch disc should say "gear box side" in English and in German. I can't help you with the translation, sorry. If you don't get this right or maybe you let your brother (who's is supposed to be helping) put it together this way, you will get disaster. **In my brothers defense, the original clutch disc did not have any English writing on it and he, nor I, speak German. The new clutch disc I had to buy, had it written in very obvious gold lettering. Oh, you say "there's no way you can put a clutch disc in backwards, that's crazy talk"! Folks, I am here to tell you, it can and did! The first time you start the car, you will "swage" or "spin weld" the clutch disc to the throwout bearing guide tube and seize the engine - DOH! As they say "ask me how I know." I have the bonded disc/tube hanging above my work bench as a reminder to take my time and look at things twice before I start turning wrenches. Good luck and have fun. Here is a link to a thread with pics of what this look like: http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthr ... 840&page=2 Andrew

Thanks for the reminder Andrew! I'm fortunate in that this is a specialized flywheel and sprung-clutch combination. It is very specific about the hub assembly facing the flywheel. Hopefully that will prevent me from making any massive errors
